With respect, I disagree with your premise that the only difference between ideology and science is “semantics.”

Science is strictly rational. It is an attempt to understand material existence. Scientists, being humans, can get emotional about their positions, but the positions themselves are rationally derived.

Like every theology, every ideology is a matter of belief. Beliefs divide people.

People with ideologies, even more than people with theologies, want everyone to live according to their beliefs. The whole point of every ideology is a particular approach to the governance of society (based on certain beliefs).

Our rational capacity is actually our only possible source for the commonality justice requires. ‘Real justice’ is the remedy for ideology — and theocracy.
