To reject "democratic socialism" because it promotes "the public good" is at best disingenuous (and at worst just plain stupid). Every idea for the 'proper' structure and functioning of the social processes intrinsic to any society (a political process and an economy) necessarily promotes some idea of 'the public good'. To say "capitalism" is 'better than' "democratic socialism" is to say that society as a whole is better served by it. That is precisely what is meant by 'the public good'. [For the record I am not any kind of 'socialist'--or Marxist, etc.]
