To my mind, the worst thing about psychology as a discipline of study is that it robbed literature of its most significant raison d'etre: the examination, through made-up social and material contexts, of 'human nature'. Literature can still go there, but it's just not the same. As a result, most 'writing' has now become the intellectual equivalent of a 'sitcom'.
