To blame totalitarianism on science is beyond ludicrous. Beliefs--assertions of knowledge/truth that are independent of material existence--are the opposite of science and are the basis of ideologies and theologies and the impetus for the totalitarian attitude. Scientists recognize that they can only seek to convince people of the valididty of their findings; ideologues and theologues are the ones who are prone to impose their beleifs on others by any means 'necessary'.
