There is the idea out there that creativity is somehow enhanced by material insecurity: the 'starving artist'. Personally, I don't think that a minimally sufficient level of material well-being would blunt creativity.

As I see it, the problem with a UBI is that providing enough of an income for people to live on is prohibitively expensive. Even the most optimistic proposals I have seen call for no more than a few hundred dollars a month.

I have developed what I think is a better alternative. It would require work (for those able and not yet of retirement age) to be paid an income, but the minimum pay would be (at least) $15/hr. and part-time work at that rate would be available. Perhaps that would be a reasonable compromise.
