The way I see it, all investment is speculation, in that the outcome is speculative--uncertain. The distinction is between productive (for humanity) speculation and unproductive (for humanity) speculation. The former has the intention of producing something for humanity materially; the latter is purely for one's own monetary gain, and nothing else.
