“The truth is, Trump and his serial illegal electoral interference are the apotheosis of a transformation of the GOP that began during the Reagan presidency, if not before.”

As I point out every chance I get, it started with Nixon’s ‘southern strategy’ — to pander to racists and bigots for their votes in order to pursue the Republican agenda, i.e. tending to Big Business and very wealthy people.

Pandering for votes in order to pursue the Republican agenda began with its appeal to abolitionists, even though the goal was not to free the slaves (except perhaps as a collateral consequence), but to destroy the ‘planter class’ and pave the way for unbridled capitalism throughout the continent, with no possible challenge from any quarter.
