The problem is that all believers believe with equal sincerity (with fervency as proof of sincerity) that their definition of 'the good' is that by which everyone should be required to live. To attain commonality we must set aside beliefs. Only our rational faculty can provide the commonality that justice--a just set of ethics--requires. For that, the ethic of justice must follow from observation within material existence, not belief.
