The problem, as I see it, is that beliefs (assertions of truths that lie outside of material existence) matter too much--to their believers. My point is that there is no basis for anyone to be required to accept any belief. The only way anyone can be required to abide by a belief that person eschews is through force of one kind or another. That is why beliefs have been responsible for so much of the large-scale conflict in human history, especially since beliefs (theological or ideological) became the basis of all states' power, beginning with Constantine making Christianity the official state religion of the Roman Empire.

Beliefs are part of human being. I have mine. Humanity must, however, get them out of the governance of nations.
