The "metaphysical hooey" is reasoning on behalf of values that here are simply asserted. There is nothing at all wrong with making such assertions, but to make the case that all people must, or at least should accept them, whether they like it or not, is where the real work begins.

Every society requires governance. The question is, what form can governance take that everyone can be required to accept as ethically valid?
