The biggest reason is people with more money than they can spend finding something to do with it. That is also why stocks and real estate are increasing in value faster than the rate of inflation. None of that helps the economy as a whole to perform better.

That is why redistribution is an unassailably good idea. It helps people with less money without hurting the economy as a whole.
