The Bible does say explicitly that "Adam" (the first Homo sapiens?) was created to tend the Garden of Eden--which was what Earth was, in the sense of 'Nature' providing for people's material needs completely prior to the advent of farming. Think "Cain," according to the Bible the son of Adam and Eve who was a farmer who murdered his brother Abel, then went on to "build the world's first city," i.e., 'invent' civilization.
