Thanks for such an accurate description of my own experience with Medium (and doubtless that of many other people). I have concluded that Medium and other sites like it are (unwittingly) the ultimate defenders of the status quo: people can post things and think that they are doing something to induce change, but everything posted on any of them gets absorbed like punches to a giant block of Silly Putty. It is especially vexing that so many people are caught up on "ego." If I were any kind of conspiracist I would be very suspicious.
I do think it demonstrates that hearing of new ideas from the authors of those ideas undermines those ideas. People need to hear about new ideas from people who have been convinced of the worth of those ideas. Sadly, people are too absorbed in their day-to-day lives and too lacking in intellectual vitality and courage to act alone to vouch for a new idea, no matter how much it promises or how certain its benefits would be.
That does point to a suggestion: start an actual organization with physical beings. Even a mere handful of real people with an actual organization that people can join is, I have concluded, the only way to effect change. It will take time and effort to find even a few people you can convince, but you do end by imploring others to do that. You must do it yourself. (I purposely avoided doing that for several reasons, but have concluded that it was a mistake in terms of effectiveness--but I am now seventy.)
