Thank you for such an interesting and informative essay. Conceptually, it looks like James’s philosophy is linked to utilitarianism before it (in an internalized way) and existentialism after it.

From my personal experience, I would add that dwelling on ‘figuring out’ other people, especially those who are close to you or have a significant impact on you, can also be a source of frustration, and worse, that we can learn to live without in a similar way.
