My position is that relying on "evidence" from material existence is precisely the opposite of belief. I have found that the ethic of justice, mutual respect, follows form the observation that humans have no choice but to effect choices. It is therefore not based on any belief (though a belief in equality does also require an ethic of mutual respect). That means it is not ideological--or theological. Yet, since engaging in mutual respect will maximize liberty, the ethic of mutual respect is very similar to the meta-ideology of Liberalism.
