Thank you for a cogent exposition.
I realize that this Response will be more than you bargained for, but, having given up on editors, I am trying to get individuals who are engaged and concerned to write about this idea of mine — not endorse it, necessarily, but write about it as, say, an interesting possibility.
I also understand that hearing of a new idea from its author this way somehow diminishes its credibility, undermines any authority it might have. I can’t help that. I do have an M.A. in economics and I have been developing this idea for some time; it is not something I came up with this morning.
My idea is a “democratically distributed income” (DDI). It would provide the means to eliminate poverty within the context of the existing economy. The ‘only’ thing that would change within the economic system would be the way the economy got supplied with money.
A “3 min.” introduction to the idea is available here on medium.com in “DDI: A Minimum Income That Performs Like a Right.” A summary of the nuts and bolts of the idea is available in “A Cure for the Ills of Capitalism.” A sort of manifesto, a much more comprehensive, political rationale for the idea, is in “People for Tolerance, Unite!”
