“Socialistic” would definitely be a better word to use. It stands as a contrast to the nonsensical radical individualism that the political Right uses to promote itself.

That radical individualism follows from the idea that in forming a society human beings ‘surrender’ the utterly unfettered ‘liberty’ they would experience in living instead as isolated individuals (from Thomas Hobbes and, especially, John Locke—though with very different ideas about the nature of such an existence — both Englishmen who lived in the 1600's).

If there is one unassailable fact about ‘human nature’ it is that were are social beings. For as long as humans have existed we have lived together in groups we call societies (whether civilized or not). We cannot ‘surrender’ anything in being what we are.

Fortunately, younger Americans seem to have an intuitive understanding of that fact of human existence.
