Postmodernism has rendered truth and knowledge to be matters of personal inclination only. No one can say what any other person is required to regard as true or valid or real—which position has become the functional foundation of the political far right in Liberal societies.
So postmodernism is only problematic for Liberal societies. For them to exist their members must be able to agree on some things that are true and valid and real; in authoritarian nations all that matters for society as a whole is what those in power take to be true, etc. [A Liberal society is one with a (formal, at least) democratic political process and the rule of law with maximizing liberty for all as its primary concern.]
I am convinced that Liberal society can be preserved despite the (valid, I think) postmodern critique of knowledge. I take mutual respect as the ethic of justice is the answer.
