Personally, I could hardly care less about the U.S. as a geopolitical entity. One lesson of Brexit, though, is that a large, completely free trade/travel zone in which anyone can freely relocate generates material benefit in ways that are all but impossible to delineate. The reason the E.U. was founded was to generate such benefit for the people of Europe. If the U.S. were to fracture into a number of smaller economic units all would be worse off materially. On the other hand, that is a price I would enthusiastically pay to continue living in a society with a democratic political process and the rule of law--which increasingly seems to be the political choice that is looming before us.
