One positive aspect of "the Enlightenment" was the establishment of universalism: all human beings have an equal moral value. Realizing the implications of that concept has been a long, hard struggle.
A new, further stage in our understanding of universalism is necessary. We must recognize that it implies that mutual respect is the ethic of justice for humanity. The implications of mutual respect for the governance of society include maximizing liberty as a practical matter, reinforcing political democracy, and transforming the outcomes for society of the existing economy — any existing economy (via a “democratically distributed income”).
