One of the myths conservatives are most fond of perpetuating about conservatism is that it isn't interested in 'social engineering'. Yet, it wants to use government to tell women they can't have an abortion, tell people what an allowable sexual orientation is, tell people they can't gamble, tell people they can't do recreational drugs, etc., etc.: conservatives want people to be 'free' to live as they think people ought to live--while claiming to be the lovers of liberty. Re. the economy, any soul conservatism had was sold long ago when it became a cultural vehicle for the interests of very rich people and Big Business.
