Of course, the postmodern position is that once the words are out there they are no longer the author's words. My position is that a Response is a continuation of a discourse. It can be intended for other readers as much as--even more than--the author. The only illegitimate Response, I think, is an out and out misrepresentation of what the author wrote, I suspect every experienced author on Medium has encountered more than one of those.
