My understanding is that it gets pretty damned chilly at night in the desert--due to the absence in the atmosphere there of water vapor (which works as a 'greenhouse gas', trapping heat at the surface rather than allowing it to radiate outward). CO2 has the effect on the atmosphere of the planet as a whole. It really isn't difficult or complicated.
