My studies have taught me that redistribution--of which a UBI is an example--is not the best way to eliminate poverty. The best way to eliminate poverty would be to institute a "democratically distributed income." It does more good for society, more simply.

As a political bonus it eviscerates neoliberalism. The only 'drawback' is that it does not punish anyone by taking anything from anybody — at least, I fear people on the political left tend to reject it for that reason.
