Marx failed to realize that when wage slavery (people being paid to be used as machines--or draft animals) replaced bondage slavery and its close kin, serfdom, for mass production that meant that money had become more important than property. In Marx's time the distribution of income still followed from property, but now the distribution of property follows from income.
