Magical thinking grows when societies are in trouble because the inadequacy of the beliefs that have underlain the governance of society is exposed.

We are currently witnessing the end of the Age of Ideology. Ideology was invented to replace sacral religion for governing the governance of society. Ideology has proven to be no more adequate for that task than sacral religion had been.

What's next? How about rationality?

People — both Moderns and Postmoderns — have mistakenly assigned rationality to ideology. Ideologies are based on beliefs as surely as any sacral religion is, so no ideology is any more rational than any sacral religion is. Ideologies are secular religions.

Rationality yields "Real Justice" (goodness without limit) here in Medium.
