It's not a matter of "healing the rift between the right and the left." What we need is an advance in our understanding of justice, one that is indifferent to 'left and right'.
We must recognize that the ethic of justice is mutual respect (of a basic kind: taking one another into account as we live our separate lives together in this world). For individuals, that ethic boils down to a handful of absolute prohibitions: no killing, harming, coercing, stealing, or manipulating (lying, cheating, etc.) to get what we want: no ‘moral relativism’ here.
A society governed by that ethic would have the maximum liberty that co-existing people can share simultaneously. It would also have a democratic political process. That ethic can be applied to the existing economy (any existing economy), with astonishing results for society.
