It isn’t only “profits” that drive the contemporary economic system. In it output must be maximized to maximize employment, output, and tax revenues.

That is actually the driver of climate change that every nation could change immediately. All it would take would be one piece of legislation.

In the solution that I have (fully) developed total output would be governed, passively but effectively, by demographics. [If it matters, I do have an M.A. in economics.] Unemployment and poverty would be eliminated regardless of the level of total output. Government — at all levels — would be funded without taxes, so the level of output would not affect that. As an option, one adult could be paid the minimum (livable) income to work in the home — as the current situation has shown, the least environmentally impactful form of employment there could be.
