It is never too late to do better. As individuals, as societies/nations, as a species we humans owe it to ourselves to try to do better. Trying to do better is always a good thing to do.

You are an articulate critic. Why not use your talents to advocate for a better approach to the just governance of society?

“A New Liberalism” (here in Medium, but not--for the benefit of any 'guest readers'--behind the paywall)

The economy, which is now regulated through the offices of government and the central bank, would be self-regulating. There would be an absolute ethical standard for individuals: no killing, harming, coercing, stealing, or manipulating (which includes lying, cheating, etc.) to get anything you want in this world. Democracy would exist because the political process is the process of effecting choices for the community as a whole: since all citizens will be affected by those choices all must be allowed to participate in the process (though in the linked article I do have a link to an idea for improving the functioning of democracy).

In the end every nation is a direct democracy: if enough people advocate (long enough and vigorously enough) for any choice for the community to effect, it will be done. Once a person is aware of a solution to a problem, to continue discussing the problem as though no solution exists is vile self-indulgence.
