It all boils down to 'wage slavery': anyone who is an employee of any other person is being used as a machine--and we've reached a point at which getting/keeping a 'decent' job (i.e. one a person can actually have a life on) requires a person to sacrifice personal freedom outside the workplace: such a job must be that person's reason for existing.
