In my experience, counter-intuitive has become the hallmark of technological development in all areas. It's making people helpless and used to not being in control in even the smallest parts of their lives. Thanks to that trend, we need help to negotiate any part of life, and people who need help are compliant people. I'm not saying it's intentional, but we are being conditioned to accept Big Brother in our lives--and people who are growing up in such an environment have no conception of self-sufficiency in any sense.
