If I may, I do think people on the left tend to overlook the cultural hegemony of liberal 'social values' in Liberal nations. Those values overwhelmingly dominate the pop culture/marketing complex that dominates all forms of 'mainstream media', which explicitly seeks to dominate life in those nations--and beyond. (Advertisements on even the most far-right T.V. stations routinely depict those values.)
It seems to me that simply being anti-political liberalism/progressivism is the common denominator for all supporters of Brexit and Trump. While I am a supporter of neither--and for that matter am an adherent of 'liberal' values--I actually loath, detest, and abhor the dominating existence of that "complex." Perhaps taking it down a notch or ten, 'values' aside, is an issue that can unite a clear majority of us.
