I would say this intensified determination to get away from the dollar is the result of the U.S. having weaponized economic relations: using 'sanctions' to accomplish what diplomacy could not where military threat was out of place. On the other hand, anyone who thinks any other nation with financial power will not use it in the same way--and for perhaps more nefarious ends--is a complete fool. Acting as a clearing house for exchanges among nation-states does strike me as one good use to which virtual 'currencies' could be put.
