I would say there has been an unfortunate confluence of cultural trends. Postmodernism has sought to effect the ultimate 'emancipation' of people by 'delegitimating' all 'power structures' related to truth and knowledge. It thereby revealed a truth that has always existed: in the end, every human being has the capacity to decide for him- or herself what he or she accepts to be truth/knowledge.

I don't know which is more ironic, that the lunacy that passes for politics on the 'new right' is the actualization of the postmodernism they ignorantly denounce or that 'leftist' postmodernists have forged intellectual shackles that make it impossible for them to denounce such lunacy (and be intellectually consistent).
