I would say that the only thing we must 'sacrifice' is actual injustice. Positively, I am convinced that the future depends on our recognizing mutual respect as the ethic of justice to govern ourselves and society (referring to mutual respect of a basic kind: taking one another into account). It requires no altruism (voluntary or forced — i.e., redistribution through government), but, applied to the economy as a system (via a “democratically distributed income”), it solves the material problems of unemployment, poverty, taxes, public debt, and sustainability.
