I would say that in China and the U.S. there is more economic freedom than there is political freedom effectively. People are more free to voice varying opinions and beliefs in the U.S., but--as the Chinese leadership will learn--the pop culture/marketing complex is sufficient to prevent the development of any serious grassroots opposition to the status quo --as long as economic collapse can be averted, at least. To avert that in the long run, what we need is more international cooperation and less of 'us vs. them' on the part of all nations.
