I really liked the first point about the danger of resurrecting institutions, such as Constitutional Convention, to recreate a past that cannot be repeated. The first one’s success was widely recognized as a secular miracle at the time.

I would note that, contrary to another statement made in the essay, there have been three “successful” presidential impeachments, which are essentially indictments, but no Senatorial convictions. Without making any reference to President Trump one way or another, it was wrong to impeach President Clinton for purely political reasons (though politics will inevitably be involved in any such process), but it would also be wrong for Congress to shirk that constitutional duty for political reasons when a president has, as President, committed impeachable offenses
