I haven’t read the book, but it sounds to me like Deneen was writing about Liberalism, the meta-philosophy, and you’re writing about liberalism as the narrower political philosophy it spawned — along with the other political philosophies of libertarianism, conservatism, and democratic (non-Marxist) socialism. All are Liberal because they accept equality and liberty as the ‘twin pillars of justice’. If Deneen ultimately fails to make those distinctions his book should be unworthy of being published — and definitely doesn’t need to be read. If he does make them, I’m afraid the mistake is yours.
