I have developed an alternative. It would not be a universal income, but it would be a sufficient income (based on the current average or median personal income) for which any citizen could become eligible--and most would. Such an approach to supplying people with an income has become necessary to prevent the collapse of civilization as we know it (i.e., maximum liberty under the rule of law and the democratic political process necessary to sustain that liberty). To the ultimate point of this essay, for now one parent with at least one dependent child in residence could be paid that income for fulfilling that role.
