I guess my point is that in that sense every group, whether geopolitical, ideological, or theological is a collective, with a collective mentality, ready, willing, and able to sacrifice their own members much less others. Socialism does make a group necessarily more prone to that. I would say the nation-state has been the worst offender. The carnage of the last century was the result of nationalism more than anything else.
