I do enjoy this author's posts, even when I disagree.

I think of ideologies as secular religions. They were meant to replace sacral religion for justly governing societies, removing large-scale, violent conflict from humanity. Unfortunately, because all ideologies are based on beliefs as surely as any sacral religion is, they have fostered at least as much violent conflict as religion ever did.

We don't "need" ideologies. What we need for justly governing societies is to replace ideologies (and theologies) with an ethic that does not involve even one belief, but is wholly determined within material existence. That gives it the universally verifiable commonality that justice requires.
