I did not say we should abolish the Senate--did not mention changing in any way the structure of our system of government. I did not call for a direct democracy. My proposal has nothing to do with more centralization of government: rule by the majority would reign supreme at the state and local level, too.

If justice if the highest societal value and a democratic political process is the only just form the political process can take, then more democracy = a more just society. Majority rule is the end point: freedom of political speech and a just distribution of political rights are the two chambers of the beating heart of a democratic political process.
