I am always up for some revision of accepted history based on new information, but this article was not that. It is mere opinion stated as fact.
1. Those stats are from before Pearl Harbor and the declarations of war involving the U.S.. It is not a myth that Americans volunteered in droves to fight Germany/Italy in Europe as well as Japan once war was declared all around.
2. Britain certainly was "alone" in the sense that no other major power in the world was formally at war with Germany/Italy at that time--especially if you consider that "Britain" refers to the Commonwealth; even at that, England itself was separated by oceans from any nations that could offer significant assistance.
3. No one person or thing could possibly be "solely" responsible for the outcome of an event as big as a war, but Hitler's (literally) insane military 'leadership' has to be about as close as you can get. He was already crazy at the start of the war; the opposition got bigger and better while his mental state got worse and worse as the inevitable defeats started to accumulate.
