I agree with the general theme of this article.

I would say though, that "Pragmatic, far-sighted adherence to empirical reality, informed as best as possible by what works and doesn’t work in global and national experiments" can sometimes include singular, transformative changes within existing paradigms. Instituting a "democratically distributed income" would be an example: it would require no changes to the existing institutional structure, but would absolutely, positively eliminate unemployment and poverty. It would also provide a template for eliminating taxes and public debt. Sustainability would be increased, even without additional policies, regulations, or any changes in behavior.

Also, any set of ideas about how society should be governed that is based on secular beliefs is an ideology. This author's ideology includes a belief in equality and a belief in some definition of "the good." The ultimate challenge humanity faces at this time is to move beyond ideology, which, being based on beliefs, is essentially no different from using theology to govern society.
