I agree. My studies have taught me that a 'third way' can be achieved by recognizing mutual respect as the ethic of justice: respect of a basic kind, i.e., taking one another into account as we live our separate lives together in this world. A requirement of mutual respect follows from a belief in equality.

A society governed by mutual respect would look very familiar to anyone living in a Liberal society today. It would have the maximum liberty that coexisting people can share simultaneously. It would have a democratic political process. It would have the same economic system, but with way better outcomes for society.
