I agree.

Really, though, condemning people in the 1700's for lacking the sensibilities of today's more enlightened people (like you and me) strikes me as being rather unfair. Hopefully there will come a time when even our notions of 'ought' in human relations will look quaint, if not worse (and let's face it, we both know I am way ahead of you in that area: you still look to your personal beliefs to say how all people ought to treat other people; I appeal to 'real justice'). As a species, we live; we learn (if slowly and unevenly).
