Hugely interesting: have you read Karen Armstrong’s The Great Transformation about the ‘axial age’, when Buddhism, Confucianism, Greek rationalism, and the Hebrew Bible all came on the scene at roughly the same time, preceded somewhat by Zoroastrianism? She can be a tad tedious, but her scholarship is solid.
