The train isn’t moving all that fast, but it is speeding up. Some people have been saying we should try to stop or divert the train. Others say we should fix what’s wrong with the bus. Others want to push the bus out of the way of the train. Some hope for building some kind of barrier, or at least sow the train down. In this bus the driver was elected. The people who voted for this person to be the driver deny either that the train is really there or that it really is a threat to the bus and the people on it — or at the least, deny that the train is more important than other matters, like gender issues/‘wokism’ or abortion. The driver’s only goal is to be the person in the bus with the most power. He agreed with the deniers so he could be elected to be the driver. Once elected, he has taken charge, claiming authority that is at best debatable. The deniers adore him. He is besotted with their adoration, and will say/do anything to perpetuate it. So he does all he can to prevent anyone from trying to solve the problem. Meanwhile, back to material reality, there really is a train and it really is bearing down on the bus — with increasing speed.
