First, thanks to this author for such a thoughtful and thought-provoking article.

On the face of it, "mutual aid" sounds like it is a step beyond "mutual respect." The latter is basically 'do no harm' while the former seems to call more for altruism, doing for others, in some form.

As a personal morality, I do believe that mutual aid is superior. As far as applying an ethic to the governance of the political process and the economy, I don't see how we can do better than mutual respect — .which would reinforce political democracy and transform the outcomes for society of the existing economy.
