First of all, thank you for that illuminating personal account. It was especially pertinent for me because I have been ruminating on the possibility of a leaderless political movement for some time.
I do think that to be successful such a movement does have to have a recognized common ground with a specific, concrete goal. In a democratic process, the broader the appeal of that idea and goal, the better.
In short, I think the nascent political movement that is coalescing in this nation needs to present to America an advance in our understanding of justice, one that can preserve democracy and the rule of law (with maximizing liberty as its primary concern) and can be applied of the economy to transform the outcomes of the existing economy to the benefit of everyone in the nation.
To accomplish all of that, "Equality Is All We Need" (here in Medium).
Full disclosure: the specific proposal presented there does not involve punishing in any way any segment of society. On the other hand, that would have the positive effect of undermining opposition from the rich and powerful in society — while it would reinforce the democratic process, wherein “we, the people” really would be in charge.
